💋 KISS for me, for all the reasons you mentioned. I read it and was intrigued by the sliding doors concept but didn’t love it.

It took me a long time to get into it- partly because I don’t feel “Can a name change a course of a life?” Is really the catalyst … the names of the boys are irrelevant (although I do appreciate the thought that went into the names as outlined by the author in the afterword), Cora left home planning to name the baby one thing and without consultation with her partner changed it… I don’t think the scenario is ever going to go well but of course it is exasperated in this scenario with the domestic violence.

But just as in your podcast- it does start an interesting discussion about names and from another online bookclub where I shared this novel, we had lots of fun sharing the story of names.

I was never meant to be Taryn (and like Anthea it does often need repeating and spelling or I’m just called Sharon and Karen and I don’t correct people unless it is important). I was meant to be Sharelle but after a c-section (45 years ago) when my mum was feeling terribly unwell, Dad said I didn’t look like a Sharelle so mum threw the baby book at him and told him to name me! 😂

I have two boys… we had a second list for the second boy but in the end went back to the list for our first and picked the second one of that!

Also lucky we never had girls as we would never have agreed - I wanted Esme first and Pia second time. My husband would never have let Esme get across the line because of Mrs Esme Watson in A Country Practice!

And while I’ve written a long comment… none of it is really about Bear, Julian or Gordon (the characters and their lives), just the topic of Names!

Oh I LOVE Esme and that's a hilarious story about how you got your name. Do you mind if I used it in a book one day? ;) Thanks again for going on this journey with us! And I agree = no matter the situation, no one is gonna be happy not at least being consulted on their child's name! x
